How to select certification bodies in Australia?

ISO Certification Body is a third party that certifies the businesses by assessing their management system against internationally recognized standards and has accreditation to issue ISO certificates. All ISO Certification Bodies (CBs) in Australia should be accredited by JAS-ANZ (The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand) (or another IAF Accredited body), and are required to meet the standards of ISO/CASCO- Committee of Conformity Assessment. Therefore, Businesses can make sure their certificate service is legitimate and completely according to the requirements of ISO 19011, which is about Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems. Businesses who have achieved their ISO certificate from an accredited CB should also be able to check their ISO certification on the JAS-ANZ register which can be found on JAS ANZ website. There are some factors you need to consider when choosing a certification body to audit your Quality Management System (QMS) which include:

  • Price:

We have three different certification audits in a three-year cycle which are as follows:

  • Certification audits are typically conducted every three years by a registered CB.

  • Surveillance audits are Yearly audits to ensure an organization is continuing to comply with ISO standards which are conducted by an accredited CB.

  • Re-certification audits are deep review of the previous surveillance audit reports which are conducted every three years by an accredited CB.

The cost of providing certification services besides the audit type depends on some other factors such as the company size, business activity and its risk profile, and ISO system for certification.

  • Experience:

It is recommended to engage a certification body with auditors who have proven experience within the required field of activity or industry.

  • Accreditation:

It is highly recommended to check if the CB’s accreditation or license is recognized inside your country. (Australian CBs need to be certified by JAS ANZ).
Choosing a Certification Body could be sometimes quite challenging; however, the best solution is to ask for your consultant’s recommendations. Management Systems’ consultants have experience working with different accreditation services, and will give you the best advice to choose the most affordable and experienced CB in your business industry.
